A collection of papers relating to the early development of Methodism in New South Wales. Included are letters to Rev. Carruthers of Parramatta, material on the history of the Parramatta church, a letter from Walter Lawry, 1820, an advertisment for services in 1829, and minutes of the annual district meeting at Kowhia 1842 and the New South Wales District 1828, the prospectus of the Subscription Library, 1845.

The work of the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society began in Australia in 1818 when the Rev. Samuel Leigh arrived in Sydney to found a mission for convicts in New South Wales. Missionaries from each District were required to meet in an annual Synod, the minutes of which were sent home to London.
